Top 8 songs on repeat.

I’ve been on hiatus, and spending months without writing has been deteriorating my soul, but you know what hasn’t? A perfectly curated playlist and I’ve created many—Some of heartbreak others just to do dishes. “Subtle” I call it, and it’s an un-skippable creative playlist I enjoy jamming out to whenever I’m feeling less confident.

I must say, out of the many songs I do have my top 8 favorites that I listen to til it’s overkill. Here are those.

  1. Renee Rapp- Gemini Moon

‘Gemini Moon’ is a soulful piece that speaks to all the unpredictable folks out there. The little voice in my head said “All the girlies out there”, but this song hits you right in the gut—points the mirror back towards you. “I exist on a pendulum, swinging high or swingin’ low,” sings Renee. Combine the words with a soothing melody, a powerful bridge and you’ve got yourself a song that’s worthy of a repeat.

2. Ariana Grande-True Story

Coming off the hype of her new album ‘Eternal Sunshine’, Ariana had some misses and a few hits, ‘True Story’ is the seventh track and was a hit. Instrumentals can easily lure a listener into a trance state—as you forget exactly what you are hearing lyrically. It is not until the second listen that you as a listener can enjoy the entire song cohesively. The pre-chorus Ariana sings, “Turnin like a dime wasting all their time/ sneaking like a creep in the night, but I’ll play whatever part you need me to.” this is when a listener can find a solid melody form but once the song kicks it’s hard to let go of the groove.

3. *NSYNC- Bye Bye Bye

Who doesn’t love a 90’s throwback hit? The lyrics to ‘Bye Bye Bye’ resonate a little different the older you get, as they go further than just a bubble gum pop song we danced to as kids.

4. Mariah the Scientist- Spread Thin

Mariah the Scientist is an artist I discovered while scrolling through Tik Tok and ‘Spread Thin’ was a song that found me. A lot can be said about this song but in short, the song’s instrumentals and production create a perfectly crafted song. The simplicity of this song is what makes it an easy listenable and repeatable tune.

5. CIL- One More Shot

CIL is an up-and-coming TikTok artist who is currently on Tour with Stevie Nicks. Her genre can be described as soul-pop. This is only one of her many soulful tunes that pay homage to her raspy powerhouse of a voice. The song first became popular through a performance of hers online, some comments can be seen referencing this video saying, “Is he sorry?” This song for me, is repeatable because—although this may be a heartbreak song it was also described to be as self-sabotage. Who doesn’t love a song that calls them out?

6. Miley Cyrus- SMS (Bangerz)

Miley Cyrus ‘SMS (BANGERZ)’ is a blast from the past. It embraces the need for being different and being free. The hint of the “Push It” sample, pays homage to Salt-N-Pepa—as MikeWillmadeit was able to rip it up and speed up the production to make a bolder beat that fit Miley’s aesthetic for the album. This song brings me back to high school and my nostalgia for the concert I never saw. It’s a perfect cleaning song as well.

7. The Marías- Run Your Mouth

The Marías ‘Run Your Mouth’, is the epitome of what emotional manipulation can look like in romantic relationships. The song feels and sounds like a cool breeze as you sit through it. The lead vocalist, María has a soothing tone as she sings the chorus, “When we talk about everything that happened/ Rather sit around don't need another lesson/ You'd just call me out Call me when I'm distant/Always run your mouthI don't wanna listen.”

It’s easy to sit with the raw lyrics when you run with the production—vibrant pop/alternative hypnotic sounds throughout. The song is on repeat because it’s great on the ears and it’s great as background noise.

8. ZHU,BANKS &bludnymph- Praise

It is no secret that I enjoy any new music BANKS decides to put out, but this happens to be a collaboration with ZHU with amazing production. There is a pretty solid beat that lacks fluctuations but makes up for it with its features. I repeat BANKS parts as she is what makes the song whole. This makes ‘Praise’ the perfect feeling yourself song.
